Long Term Installation

For this piece I was inspired by Eugene Field's poem Little Boy Blue. This poem explores a child dying of SIDS. The last line of the quote reads, "Since he kissed them and put them there". I decided to use this line within my piece to highlight time in relation to death. The linear fabric also represents time. The blue fabric begins at the ceiling and runs the length of the wall and floor. This piece represents life on Earth. The white pieces of fabric show life after Earth. White was used to signify the purity of the child and his carrying to the after life. The quote shows navy blue letters in a childlike placement to highlight age and seem as if done by a child. The blue fabric is folded over itself on the floor to show the challenges of life while the white fabric is placed perfectly in crisp lines to show the ease of the after life.
